My hero.

May 7, 2012

May 7, 2012 I knew I would marry a hero. I’ve always been drawn to inspirational men. Men who have a story. Men who have a passion… Men who want to make a difference. It’s Monday afternoon and my sweaty husband just came home from painting one of my parent’s care homes. Not because he was told – but because he volunteered. He does that often. He volunteers to take pictures for a family event, to barbeque at someone’s party…

Mommy Fitness: On track.

May 4, 2012

My goal is to wake up early morning and train. However, that hasn’t happened. Here’s why: 1) I sleep late. I sleep late because the boys go to bed at 8:30pm. That means I finally have time to myself – of course, that’s after I’m done cleaning, doing the dishes and laundry. “Me” time also comes after working, sending emails and paying bills. When I finally get to ‘me’ time I read a book, write in my diary, browse Facebook…

Men are from Mars…

May 2, 2012

May 1, 2012 On Saturday we attended a lecture of one of my favorite relationship authors, John Gray. He wrote the series of books, “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.” When I first read that book, I was sixteen years old and experiencing a break up with a person I dated for only two months.  Reading about the differences between men and women were a revelation to me.  At the time, I thought I was undergoing the rubber…

Mommy Fitness: my scale is ‘off’

April 26, 2012

My husband weighed himself the other day and the scale was anywhere between 5-7 pounds off. I was shocked! I was weighing in around 130….but when I started declining to 128 I also knew the scale might not be correct because my clothes weren’t matching what the scale measured. So, I began a mission on weighing myself on several different scales. In the end, I ended up purchasing a new scale. So how does it feel to be heavier than…

Mommy Fitness: Unmotivated

April 19, 2012

Last week I was killing it on the workouts. I trained five days, worked on my core and was feeling sore nearly every day. This week, however, is a different story. It all started a few days ago when a wave a nausea came over me. I know, I know…please don’t say I’m pregnant. Is it possible – maybe. But last time I felt this way, I got my period for the first time since delivering. That was a month…

The Truth About Motherhood.

April 18, 2012

April 17, 2012 Two years ago, I became a mother for the second time. I can distinctly remember rushing to the hospital, getting wheeled into the delivery room and pushing Nicholas out within minutes after being admitted. It’s been an incredible ride since then. Nicholas is undoubtedly my most ‘hard headed’ son. His smile can light up your world, his cry can make your heart melt and his whine can make you go crazy. Yes, you read that right.  I…

Mommy Fitness: My CORE workout

April 11, 2012

I made it a goal to start training more core more often. After having three kids in three years my midsection has definitely lost the strength it once had. Push ups is a great example of how weak my core is….I can’t even perform ten without my ab area getting tired (even before my chest does!) So here is what I’m doing: I’m using a stopwatch (on my phone) I start with the PLANK. It’s like a pushup but you’re…

The “weight” of my world.

April 10, 2012

April 9, 2012 I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t preoccupied with my weight. In my pre-teen diaries, I would constantly write about boys, chores and my weight. In elementary I began a morning workout routine of 100 jumping jacks and 50 leg lifts. In high school I ate the same lunch; wheat bread with lettuce and turkey, fat free saltine crackers, fruit and water. If I bought fries, my friends would laughingly watch as I…

Mommy Fitness: New Goals.

April 9, 2012

I haven’t posted about my fitness in a while mainly because I’ve been so busy AND there really doesn’t seem like a lot to post about. I am six pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight of 125. Interesting because it took me nearly six months to get to this weight after my second pregnancy. I reached 131 in just three months! Crazy. What am I doing differently? Well, I definitely think my body is becoming a ‘baby making machine’. It’s…

Clean Eating: Coconut Water

April 3, 2012

For the past couple months, I totally stopped drinking anything besides water. I’ve expanded my choices to soy milk, coconut water and tea. I don’t use any added sugars of fake sugars. My best friend, Borina, introduced me to coconut water when we went to Vegas. It’s not as delicious as Diet Coke, but it doesn’t have the fake sugar that makes me bloated and it kills the craving I have for sugar! So – if you haven’t tried coconut…
