Like many military wives, Kelley Bouchard has made a lot of sacrifices while her husband works long hours in the Army. Not only is she raising two small children, but her daughter is special needs and requires therapy. She is making a move back to her parents home while her husband is deployed to make things ‘simple’ and stay in an area where her daughter can receive the best of what is available to her. In that time, she is also making time for fitness, building her at-home-business as a beach body coach and just passed her personal training exam! Read on to see how this mommy stays fit while doing it all!
1. How many kids do you have?
2. Girl (5 next month) 5 lbs 4 oz Boy 2. 9lbs 7oz I gained 40 lbs with both, but failed to lose all the weight from the first before my second.
2. C-Section or Natural? How long did it take you to recover? When did you start training?
My daughter was an emergency c-section. I wasn’t even awake for her birth. Physically took about six month. Mentally it took until after I had my son who was fully natural VBAC.
3. Did you nurse? How long?
Yes. My daughter 19 months. My son 17 months.
4. What does your daily routine look like?
Get up at 5:30 and take some “me” time if I can, but usually my son is up within minutes of me getting up. So we have quiet time together. At 6:30, I get my daughter up and ready for her day. The bus comes at 7:30 for her. (She attends a special needs preschool.) Once she’s on the bus, I get my workout in. The rest of the day is spent running errands, fixing meals, studying, trying to work from home, and taking care of my son until my daughter gets home at 2:00. Then I deal with sibling rivalry for a few hours until my husband makes it home from work usually around 6:00-7:00. We have dinner around 6:00 even if my husband isn’t home so I can get the kids in the tub and in bed around 7:30-8:00.
5. What is your weekly workout?
I try to workout every day, but adjust as I need to. Right now my workouts involve DVDs heavily. It just works for me. It’s how my fitness journey began. I’m currently doing Insanity: The Ayslum. I also run so I can get out and get some fresh air, and get the dog outside and exercising. Animals need exercise too!
6. What is your weekly diet?
I drink Shakeology daily for breakfast or a snack. It’s what I believed help me lose all my weight. I have trouble eating well, but it used to be so much worse. I try to eat an overall balanced diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and meats. I don’t really count calories.
7. What is your philosophy on training?
Listen to your body, but push yourself. You have to make yourself a little uncomfortable if you want to see results. I don’t’ like whining! And I hate excuses!
8. What question are you asked the most? What is your answer?
How did you do it? A: Stayed focused. Didn’t give up. Ate well most of the time and exercised. It really is a simple formula.
9. What is most challenging being a fit mother? How do you overcome it?
The most challenging part if getting the workout in when both the kids are home. (The weekend.) It’s a free-for-all. They make it really difficult.
10. What is your occupation?
Stay-at-home mom. Beachbody Coach. And newly minted Certified Personal Trainer.
11. What is your advice for moms first starting out?
Just do it! Pick a program or routine that you think you can really stick to. It’s not always going to be fun, but you have to keep doing it. Otherwise, it becomes too easy to quit. (I started P90X twice before I was able to complete it. It was never fun to me, but I did it. That’s where the journey begins.) It’s not just physical training, it’s mental. So stay focused on your goals. Set goals. Otherwise, you won’t have anything to measure your progress by. Always set new goals. Don’t diet! Eat well.
12. What is your favorite clean recipe?
My go to is a micro green salad that I learned on a cleanse that I did. (Not your typical cleanse. You eat actual food on it.) No lettuce involved. It has tomatoes, red bell pepper, sprouts, grated carrot, avocado, nuts, and homemade vinegarette. I m all about making my own salad dressing. It’s so easy not to do.
13. What is ‘your secret weapon’ for those who want to be in shape? How long did it take you to lose weight?
I don’t know if I have a ‘secret weapon’, but the greatest tool I used was Shakeology. You can’t eat crap food, even with working out, and expect to see great results. It took me about eight months to get back to my prepregnancy weight, but my body has changed even more drastically since then.
