February 14, 2014

I still remember the days when I had a muffin top! I was very self conscious in form fitting dresses and tight tops. My vision was to confidently wear a tank top and jeans in the summertime! It took consistency, discipline, faith and patience but I finally got rid of mines and here’s some tips on how to get rid of yours! If you have any tips, pics or success stories to help others, please share! 1. Strength train your…

Vegan Chocolate Bundt Cake

December 19, 2013

I love to bake. I bake 1-2 times a week and our cookie jar is rarely empty. So, for my son’s 2nd birthday I originally wanted to make a watermelon cake, but (duh!) watermelon isn’t in season. So I opted for a chocolate vegan bundt cake. It was very easy to make and only took me an hour. Ingredients: 2 cups flour 1 cup sugar 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 tablespoon corn starch 1/3 cup cocoa 1/2 teaspoon salt 1.5…

4 words I will Never Use.

November 25, 2013

There are certain terms I rarely use in my vocabulary that has been used a lot lately via comments on my Facebook page and website. While I am often portrayed as uncompassionate by viewers, personal friends and family members know I am highly sensitive and very direct.  I don’t view life with negative lenses, I see how people react as a reflection in how they see themselves or what they are intimately experiencing in their own life. Since my influence…

List of TV Appearances

November 8, 2013

In the last few weeks I’ve been making my rounds with the media world. Silly me, I never realized rivalries between networks or how fast news flies! The week Yahoo posted my pic online I started a media tour that included radio shows while getting ready, skype interviews at the airport, in-studio interviews and satellite shows from my hometown of Sacramento, CA.  I don’t have all my interviews but here’s a snippet of a few: TV SHOWS: Good Morning America:…

The 5 issues with America Today

November 5, 2013

After the onslaught of last week’s media blitz and feeling like a punching bag from commenters, emailers and news/talk show hosts (won’t say who) I feel like I can still smile knowing that the many who got my message, truly received it. I do have to admit though. I have looked at this man to my right and asked “what is going on?” a few times. (thanks hunny for your support) Here’s what I believe is going on:…

First picture was taken in 2006 weighing in at 150lbs. The second was taken at 125lbs after having three kids in 2013. I am telling you this story because I want to show a few things: –          – My knowledge in fitness and nutrition was a progression –         –  My body underwent Metabolic Damage and I couldn’t lose weight for years –          – Building good habits throughout the years created a healthy life routine –          – Consistency is the number…

Blueberry Muffins

August 25, 2013

Nearly every Sunday morning I look at my leftover fruits from the week and try to make use of them. This week I am left with an abundance of blueberries as my husband went a little wacky when he shopped at Costco the other day and bought 3 organic containers of blueberries! Unfortunately, it was very sour and the boys (and me) didn’t enjoy it very much. For those who follow my Instagram (@mariakangfitness)  you know I’m not particular about…

Clean Eating: Chicken Adobo

August 21, 2013

My family loves my version of healthy chicken adobo. This is a Filipino favorite that is usually made with chicken thighs and legs, served over a generous portion of white rice because the soy sauce and vinegar makes the dish so salty!   I actually don’t make a lot of Filipino Food (as there is a lot of  pork, frying and sauces…3 things I’m not a fan of)  but my family loves this. When I was younger I loved to…
